Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State extended a warm welcome to Benue-born Nigerian professional football icons Ogenyi Onazi and Moses Orkuma during a recent visit to Government House in Makurdi. The governor, visibly delighted by their presence, highlighted the occasion as a celebration of local talent and a commitment to youth development in the state.

The meeting, which took place on July 18, 2024, was marked by a symbolic gesture as the footballers presented Governor Alia with their national and club jerseys. Both Onazi and Orkuma, who hail from Benue State, were praised for their contributions to Nigerian football and their representation of the state on the international stage.

Following their visit to Government House, Governor Alia took the football stars to the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi. The stadium, currently undergoing renovations aimed at meeting international standards, served as a backdrop for discussions on sports infrastructure and youth empowerment initiatives. Governor Alia emphasized the importance of such projects in nurturing local talent and promoting sports excellence among Benue’s youth.

Ogenyi Onazi, known for his midfield prowess, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed his dedication to supporting grassroots football initiatives in Benue State. Moses Orkuma, a promising young talent, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the role of mentorship and infrastructure in nurturing future football stars.
